Quincy's 6th Birthday: Rainbow My Little Pony Party

Quincy had been counting down the days for weeks. She had been telling us what she wanted to do, where she wanted to go, and what she wanted as a gift for probably 11 months. Getting her ears pierced was at the top of her list when we told her she could get them done when she was 6 years old. But when it came down to the day she decided that she wouldn't like to sleep with them in while they healed up, so she decided not to do it yet. 

Quincy could not wait to go to Build-a-Bear Workshop. We brought up the idea instead of getting her a few gifts, that she might enjoy for a few weeks, taking her to experience something new. Build-a-Bear seemed to be a good way to ease into experience type gifts, since she would leave with something in hand as well. 

Quincy and I headed to the mall for a fun little date. I recorded her experience on my phone, but unfortunately, I'm still unsure about how to convert those videos so that I can use them in our vlogs. She thoroughly enjoyed it though and was very sweet the entire time.

My Little Pony is the theme she chose for her birthday party. I used rainbow colors to decorate and it all turned out super cute! Quincy wanted a fun fetti cake. I had made cupcakes the week before for her actual birthday. So I froze the rest of those and then also made a cake. I used Cake By Courtney's Strawberries and Cream cake recipe and then added sprinkles in the mix. It was delicious! Quincy invited a few little neighbor girls and then she wanted family there as well. The kids played pin the tail on Rainbow Dash. Her daddy drew the Rainbow Dash for it (he is very talented.) Then they also played a game with a bunch of toys all wrapped up in plastic wrap into a large ball. The kids had to roll a 1 to be able to start unwrapping the plastic wrap as fast as they can. The catch is that they have to do it with socks on their hands :) They all loved it, but it was hard for some to take turns at first. They all ended up with some fun toys though! Quincy cried a few times, Lucy cried a few times. But in the end, I think they all enjoyed themselves. And I'm glad the party is over until next time ;)

I can't believe Quincy is 6! Her birth and baby Quincy seem like yesterday. Time is such a crazy thing. But I have really enjoyed watching her personality come to life and see the caring and kind person she is becoming. I love you Quincy! Thanks for making me a mom.

Lucy's Frozen Birthday & Gift Guide

Lucy asked for an "Elsa and Anna party" for her third birthday party. Any toddler girls dream right? So I had to make it happen. It's always a little crazy with her birthday being right before Halloween. We love to invite family and close friends over for a costume party. I typically like to go all out with decorations and food. But, with a newborn this year my time was more limited. I think she still enjoyed it though :) Thanks to those who came and loved on our Lucy girl!

I have the best husband who also happens to be artistic and a little crafty (not sure if he wants me to tell you that :) but it's true!
He made the "Pin the Nose on Olaf" game. He also came home with a "3" pinata and redecorated it to match the party. Not sure what I would do without him. He's the best!

Minnie Mouse Birthday Party

Quincy decided she wanted to have a Minnie Mouse party for her 4th birthday party this year. We told her she could invite 4 little friends. She was so excited! We went to the party store and picked out some decorations and supplies. Her friends came over in the morning for a little party, we played "Pin the Bow on Minnie" and colored a picture of Minnie Mouse. Then we had family over later in the day. Double party. I was glad we split up friends and family parties, Quincy had a great time too!

These cute Minnie Mouse cupcakes were so simple to make. My "go-to secret" cupcake recipe is so easy... I literally just used a Wilton's white cake box cake and added a vanilla instant pudding mix and 1/2 a cup of sour cream. Bake how it instructs on the box. Adding pudding and sour cream just makes the cake less dry and more delicious :) For the frosting I used a simple buttercream recipe given to me by good friend and professional cake decorator Jenny Johnson.

Easy Buttercream

1 cup shortening
1 cup butter (at room temp)
1 tsp vanilla
4 Tbs milk
2 lb powdered sugar (8 cups)

Combine shortening and butter until creamy. Add milk and vanilla then slowly incorporate powdered sugar. Add more milk (by tablespoon) until desired consistency has been reached. Add food coloring for desired color.

To make the frosting swirl as I did, use a 1M frosting tip. Start in the center and make one circle, then a seond circle around the first. To finish make a third circle on top of the first circle and swirl upwards. Don't forget to add mini oreo cookies for Minnie's ears!

Not only did Quincy love these cupcakes, but I loved them because they were simple and cute.

Lucy in One-derland

It was an Alice in Wonderland theme for Lucy's first birthday. We called it Lucy in "One"derland. Since her birthday is near Halloween we thought it would be fun to have a costume party, so we all dressed up of course. We thought Lucy should be Alice for her birthday even though Quincy wanted to be Alice for Halloween. So, I ended up making two Alice costumes!

I also made Lucy's cake, staying up late the night before. And surprise surprise, she wouldn't even touch it! You can see at the end, I tried to give her a tiny bite and she was not happy about it! My bad Lu. We realized the next day that she might not have been feeling well at her party, when she woke up sick the next day :( poor baby!

She loved opening all of her gifts though. And Quincy was more than happy to help. Our girls are sure loved by their grandparents, aunts and uncles! 

The menu consisted of Chocolate and Vanilla cupcakes, "Cheshire Cat Tail" cookies, "Don't Be Late" donuts, veggies and dip, cheese ball and crackers, ham and turkey sandwiches, and apple cider in tea cups. Somehow I missed getting a photo of the cute teacups we had as decorations. It was a fun little "tea party," and I think it turned out pretty cute, if I do say so myself!

I chose to decorate Lucy's smash cake like the cake in the tea party scene on Alice in Wonderland. I used some fondant for the flowers and candle, which I've never used before. It turned out pretty cute! Too bad she didn't want to eat any of it... so much for a "smash" cake.
