San Diego

We had never been to San Diego as a family before. When I was little my dad took my brother and I to SeaWorld, but that's all I remembered about San Diego. Jordan played ball there when he played for the University of Montana. But we were excited to explore the city together.

Our trip started off by staying a few nights in Cedar City with Grandma & Grandpa Wood. We had then planned to stay a few nights with our BFF's in St George, but unfortunately, they came down with the flu :( We decided to stay a night in Vegas and enjoy the pool for a few hours. The weather didn't quite cooperate with us, it was windy and chilly. But we still enjoyed the hot tub (luckily they let kids in the hot tubs there!) The next morning we headed to San Diego.


We rented a vacation home just off of Mission Bay. To be honest, when we walked in, I was unimpressed. It was hot and muggy, and looked like it hadn't been swept in a few weeks or dusted in a few months. But, as soon as we opened some windows and found a broom. It was a million times better. Luckily I brought my Norwex :) The location was great. We walked the block to the beach that night to watch the sunset. The next morning we spent a few hours at the beach. The weather was great. Just warm enough to enjoy the beach.





We headed back to the AirBNB for lunch and a nap. That evening (Valentine's Day) we decided to drive up to La Jolla to see the tide pools... well rookie mistake, but they are closed this time of year for pupping season. But it ended up being great because we got to see the seals and the baby seals. It was quite windy and cold, but we enjoyed a beautiful pink sunset! We finished the night with a delicious dinner at a local BBQ place called Bubba's Barbecue.



Thursday we spent the day at SeaWorld. The weather was perfect for walking around the park that day. Quincy loved all of the kiddie rides. The highlight for most of us was the dolphin show. Lucy thought it was so fun that she got wet, but not too wet because dad saved the day with some ponchos. Dad took one for the team though, since he only brought three ponchos. We also loved the Orca show and the giant sea turtles. We took a ride over Mission Bay and also rode the Sky Tower, which was cool to see more of San Diego from that height.



The next morning we packed up early and headed out of town. But first we stopped at the San Diego Temple. Which is even more beautiful in person! The girls did great traveling, with minimal complaints and lots of movies watched. I had to be sure and tell Quincy how lucky she was that she gets to watch movies on road trips... because "back in the old day" 😁 when I was little, we didn't get to do that. 😂 I guess I'm 'that' mom. We had a great time enjoying a little warmer weather before we were welcomed home to snow storm after snow storm. Most of all, the time together was the best.

Bear Lake on Pioneer Day

I have been going to Bear Lake almost every summer since I was 12. Many times with my Dad's family and a few with my Mom's. These last two years Jordan and I went with my brother and his wife. They just had their first baby, so now we get to take all of our kiddos together! 

If you have never been to Bear Lake, put it on your bucket list. It is such a pretty blue color, and the water is very clear. My favorite part is actually driving down the mountain as you come up Logan canyon and down into Garden City. The perfect view of the lake. Typically there is a large sandy beach, but this year the water was super high! I have never seen it this high before. The girls enjoyed throwing rocks. Lucy loves anything that Quincy does at the moment, so she loved throwing rocks and eating chips and treats next to sis on the blanket. Quincy had a good time in the water with her dad and her uncle. She practiced her swimming techniques that she has been learning this week, even though she was wearing a life jacket :) eating a picnic lunch, and then we were rained out. But we didn't mind, as we stopped by "La Beau's Too" to savor one of their famous raspberry shakes on the way out of town. (That was the real reason we drove to Bear Lake anyway :))

Leo Carillo

Our time at Leo Carillo was well... sandy. I mean obviously we were at the beach. But it was rather chilly and windy. The wind blew the sand into every little crevice it possibly could. Quincy was buried in the sand by her uncle, so she obviously had the most sand. We loved spending the day with family. Watching cousins play is just too fun. Wish we could go back right now. I wouldn't even care if I brought a gallon of sand home in my hair again. It would be worth it.

Santa Monica

Beach days are my favorite. It wasn't hot, but it was warm enough to be in swimsuits for part of it (if you are me) or all of it (if you are Quincy and Jordan.) Lucy took a nice little nap. She fell asleep in my arms for the first time in a long time. Then we laid her down under the umbrella. Jordan dug her a little bed in the sand, which we covered with a towel. She looked as snug as a bug. Quincy played and played. In the sand and in the water. Then dumping the water on the sand. You know, typical beach things. She was in heaven. We all were in heaven.
