Heart Shaped Lace Dutch Braid | Q's Hairdos

How fun is this style? I was inspired by Missy Sue when I saw a picture tutorial of this style on Pinterest! As long as you can do a lace dutch braid, you can do this style! 1. I decided to do this style with dry hair, but you could do it with wet as well.
2. A center part to the back of the crown. 
3. Starting on the right side of the head, take a very small one inch section parallel to the part line.
4. Split into three.
5. Begin the braid by crossing the middle section over top of each side section.
6. Cross the back strand (or left strand) under the middle one more time.
7. Now we will begin adding hair only to the front strand (or the right strand.)
8. Add a small section to the front strand and cross under the middle.
9. Do not add hair to the back strand, simply cross under the middle.
10. Add a section to the front strand, cross under the middle.
11. Cross the back under the middle.
12. Add a section to the front and cross under the middle.
13. Continue this process.
14. The important part here is where you hold your hands.
15. You want to slightly curve your hands as you go in that heart shape.
16. Beginning towards the front and then angle them to the back of the head as you start adding the hair in on the sides.
17. I left hair above the ear to cover it.
18. Once you have finished adding in hair, simple three strand braid until about the end of the hair.
19. I decided to pancake only the outside of the braid.
20. Pull gently on each outside stitch, starting at the bottom and working your way to the top. You may have to go back to the bottom to loosen it again.
21. Once you have the desired look, secure the braid with a clip.
22. Now we will repeat on the left side.
23. Take a small one inch section parallel to the part line. Split into three.
24. Cross the sides underneath the middle.
25. Now remember to add hair to the front section (this time it's the left strand.)
26. Do not add hair to the back strand, simply cross under the middle.
27. Add to the front and cross under the middle.
28. Continue this process remembering to angle your hands to the front slightly and then when you start adding hair from the side of the head, you will angle your hands to the back.
29. When you finish braiding the hair all the way down, pancake the outside stitches.
30. Now we will secure the braids together in the middle with an elastic.
31. I lifted the braid here to smooth and brush the remaining hair.
32. If you would like to wrap the elastic with hair, take a small section from the back of the pony, wrap around a few times.
33. Now take the Topsy Tail tool (I will link it below) stick the pointed end down through the top of the pony, and through the elastic, put the end of the hair that you wrapped through the loop, and pull downwards carefully.

How to Dutch Braid | Braided Heart with a Ponytail | Valentine's Hairstyle | Q's Hairdos

This style took about 15 minutes and I did it mostly with dry hair. This style was originally inspired by Brown Haired Bliss. @brownhairedbliss

1. Start near the part line in the crown section.
2. Take a diagonal section about one inch and split into three.
3. Start a dutch braid by crossing the side strand under the middle strand.
4. Add hair to the side strand and then cross under the middle.
5. Add hair to the opposite side and then cross under the middle.
6. Continue the Dutch braid until you have braided the crown section.
7. Secure with an elastic.
8. Move this pony out of the way and secure the rest of the hair in a low side ponytail.
9. Split the hair in the upper pony into three sections.
10. Dampen the hair with water and add SoCozy Mousse to each section. (I will link the products I use below.)
11. Braid each of the three sections to the end and secure with a small clip temporarily.
12. Take one of the side braids and grab one piece of the elastic from the ponytail above. 
13. Pull the braid up and through the elastic, leaving a tiny bit of the braid in the elastic still to form a little bubble.
14. Now repeat with the other side braid. Pulling it through the elastic but not all the way.
15. Form a heart with the two side braids and secure them to the middle braid with an elastic.
16. Comb through the bottom of the pony and secure the braids to the side ponytail.
17. Curl the hair in the ponytail if desired. I will link my curling iron below.
