Three 5 Minute Back To School Pigtail Styles | Q's Hairdos

Quincy is starting first grade in a few weeks and now we will have limited time to do hair each day! I wanted to come up with a few new 5 minute styles. I love pigtails for school because they stay in better than a ponytail and the hair doesn't get as tangled as when we just do it half up.

Style #1- Rope Braid Pigtails

1. Start with a side part
2. Place a finger at the nape of the neck. 
3. Put the comb at the top of the crown and bring it down to the finger at the nap of the neck.
4. This helps get the part line straight.
5. Clip the left side out of the way.
6. Start at the part line with a two inch diagonal section.
7. Split into two
8. Cross the front piece over top of the back piece
9. Add a one inch section to the front piece and cross over top of the back piece.
10. Continue adding a one inch section to the front piece and cross over the top until you have added all of the hair in one section.
11. Secure with an elastic to form the pigtail.
12. On the opposite side take another two inch section
13. Split in half and then cross the front piece over top of the back piece
14. It will go the opposite way with your hands.
15. Add to the front piece and continue to cross over top of the back piece.
16. Secure with an elastic at the base of the rope braid.
17. Add bows 

Style #2- Bubble Braid Pigtails

1. Section the hair into pigtails.
2. Secure the left pigtail with an elastic
3. Secure the crown section with an elastic at the back corner of the section.
4. Part off a two inch section just below the crown section and secure both together with an elastic at the bottom of the section about two inches under the first elastic.
5. Gently pull at the hair between the two elastics.
6. Repeat with another two inch section.
7. Secure with an elastic two inches below the second elastic.
8. Gently pulling at the hair as you go to form the bubbles between the elastics.
9. Continue until all of the hair on the right side is secured in elastics.
10. Now take an elastic and wrap the elastic around the ponytail about two inches from the last elastic.
11. Gently form the bubble.
12. Repeat until the end of the ponytail.
13. Repeat on the opposite ponytail.
14. Add bows!

Style #3- Topsy Tail Rope Twists

1. Section the hair into pigtails.
2. Secure the left pigtail with an elastic
3. Secure the crown section with an elastic at the back corner of the section.
4. Take the Topsy Tail tool and put the pointed end downwards through the elastic.
5. Pull the ponytail through the loop and pull downwards until the looped end comes through.
6. Secure the ponytail into the right side pigtail.
7. Split the pigtail into two.
8. Twist both sections to the right and cross to the left.
9. Twist to the right, cross to the left.
10. Continue until you reach the end then secure with an elastic.
11. Repeat on the opposite pigtail.
12. Gently tug at each section of the rope twist to get a fuller look.
13. Add bows!

How I Define My Natural Waves/ Curls | Q's Hairdos | Tessi's Hairstyle

During the summer I love to wear my hair naturally curly. I try to use less heat during the summer since our hair is already getting more heat from being out in the sun. It's important to protect your hair from the summer damage- sun, chlorine, salt. A few tips:

-Wear a hat
-Add leave in conditioner to the hair before getting in the water
-Get hair wet with fresh water before getting in the water
-Use products that protect the hair against UV damage and chlorine, salt water, and hard water

1. After washing my hair with Renew Shampoo I add Restore Leave in conditioner starting at the ends and working my way upwards. 
2. I then run my fingers through my hair until my hair starts to form into waves or curls together-this is called "noodling"
3. I flip my head upside down and continue "noodling"
4. Once my hair feels smooth from roots to ends, I start to scrunch it upwards, still with my head upside down.
5. I squeeze the extra water out just with my hands.
6. Now I stand up and place my curls where I want them, parting my hair, and twisting pieces that don't want to curl properly.
7. Next I add Curl Cream
8. Scrunch the curl cream in starting at the ends.
9. Next take a t shirt and scrunch some of the water out
10. Then I will use the diffuser and dry at the roots first
11. Then dry the ends upside down first
12. Then flip over and finish drying
13. Take a dry t shirt and scrunch the hair to break up the product if it feels crunchy 
14. To finish I add a few drops of Rejuvenique Oil mixed with the Taffy and gently add to the ends to decrease frizz.

Quick Summer Style: Rope Braid | Q's Hairdos

I love this style for summer. Keeps the hair in place and off the neck to keep Quincy cool. She loves summer but she gets hot easily :) This style took about 5-6 minutes!

1. We love this detangler by Monat. Comment below for a discount, or purchase at the link in the description.
2. Start with a side part and slightly damp hair in the crown section.
3. Section off the front half from the back of the crown down just behind the ear. Clip the back half out of the way.
4. Take a one inch diagonal section at the part line and split in half.
5. Cross the front piece over top of the back piece.
6. Add a one inch section to the front piece and cross over top of the back.
7. Grab another one inch section. I like to use this brush to help smooth the hair.
8. Add the section to the front piece and cross over top of the back.
9. Continue until the entire front section is in the braid.
10. When there is not any more hair to add in, simply twist both sections towards the front and cross over towards the back. Do that a few times and then clip out of the way.
11. Now on the other side of the face we will grab a one inch section and cross the front piece over top of the back piece.
12. Add hair to the front and cross over top of the back.
13. Repeat until all of the hair is added in.
14. Take both braids and cross the front one over top of the back to secure both with an elastic.

How to Curl Short Hair + How I Make Curls Last 7 Days! | Q's Hairdos | Tessi's Hairstyle

I chopped my hair about 3 months ago now and I have been loving it! I filmed this tutorial about a month ago when I had finally figured out how I like to curl it while short! I hope it helps and as always, if you have questions, comment below! It takes me about 15-20 minutes to curl my hair. But then it lasts me a week! At the end I show how I keep my curls and what it looks like on day 2!

I have started to use Monat hair products and I am in love. My hair has never felt so soft! Breakage that I had been dealing with for 6 months is literally healed... I can't believe it! 1. After washing my hair, I add Monat's Blow Out Cream, Inner Force Restructuring Serum (great for over processed and damaged hair), and Rejuvabeads to my ends (to help heal split ends!)
2. I then let my hair air dry as long as I can.
3. Then I will take the blow dryer to it and round brush the curl out from the back of my hair.
4. I like to use a large round brush with boar bristles.
5. Once my hair is 100% dry, then I take the hair about 1 inch above my ear and clip it out of the way.
6. Starting at the front, I take about 1-1 1/2 inch sections and I will be curling my hair with a 1 inch wand.
7. Always be careful about what temperature you are using to curl your hair. It should never be above 400. Best to keep it close to 350.
8. I use the wand upside down and hold it parallel to my face.
9. Wrapping the hair away from my face, keeping the last two inches off of the wand
10. Hold the hair on the wand for about 10 seconds.
11. For this bottom layer I like to pull at the curl once I let it go from the wand, to straighten it a bit.
12. This makes it so that the curl isn’t so tight on the bottom layer.
13. At the back where I have more natural wave to my hair, I like to take the curling iron and rub it at the top if it is still a bit wavy to help loosen that wave before I wrap it around the wand.
14. Continue taking 1- 1 1/2 inch sections, until you reach the back.
15. Then repeat on the opposite side going in the opposite direction so that the curl is away from your face.
16. Take the next few inches of hair from the clipped section and curl each section away from the face. I like to start at the back to keep the uncurled hair where I can see it better.
17. For this section I straighten out the curl just slightly but not a lot like the bottom section.
18. I do one more section the same way.
19. Then for the very top I make sure to brush out the hair before I curl that section to keep it smooth.
20. Keep the wand parallel to the face, so you won’t curl the top few inches.
21. Once done curling, I gently run my fingers through the curls to break them up a bit.
22. Then I like to smooth them out with a bit of Rejuveniqe Oil from Monat.
23. I don’t use hairspray on my hair very often, but you could spray your curls at this point as well.
24. Now I will show what I do to keep my curls lasting longer.
25. At night I put my hair either half up or all the way up in a soft scrunchy. The best are velvet or silk. I pull at the roots to give a little volume.
26. Also sleeping on a silk pillowcase helps.
27. In the morning I let it out and then use a wide toothed comb to gently comb through my curls.
28. I add a little more Rejuveniqe oil and encourage my curls to form back together and use some dry shampoo if needed.

How To Fishtail Braid | Q's Hairdos | Lu's Hairdos

I had a lot of requests for a tutorial on how to do a fishtail braid... so here it is! I hope this is basic and easy to understand! A fishtail braid is only with two strands, and it's really easy to do! I first do it on Quincy's long hair. One wet and one dry. Then lots of pancaking to make the braid more full and loose. Then I do a tiny one on Lucy and show you how even a tiny fishtail braid can be made full! Both super cute!

Quincy

1. Start with the hair in the crown sectioned off and secure with an elastic at the back corner.
2. Add water and spray gel as needed.
3. Secure the rest of the hair into a side ponytail a few inches underneath the top pony.
4. Take the top pony and add more water.
5. Split into two.
6. Take a small strand from the back of the left side and cross over the top to add into the right side.
7. Take a small strand from the back of the right and add to the left.
8. Continue adding from the left to the right and right to the left until the braid reaches the bottom ponytail.
9. Be sure to hold everything tight as you add each strand pull it tight.
10. Gently loosen each stitch.
11. Secure the braid to the bottom ponytail with an elastic.
12. Then continue to pull at each stitch to pancake as much as you desire.
13. For the bottom braid I will be doing the same thing but with dry hair.
14. Split into two.
15. Take a small piece from the back of the left and add to the right.
16. Take a small piece from the back of the right and add to the left.
17. Continue until you have the braid at the desired length.
18. Secure with an elastic and then pancake.

Lucy

1. Start with a two inch section with a diagonal part and secure with an elastic
2. Secure the rest of the hair in the crown section at the back corner, leaving out the first pony.
3. Take the first pony and split into two.
4. Add water and spray gel as needed.
5. Take a tiny section from the back of the left side and cross over the top to add into the right side.
6. Take a tiny section from the right side and cross over the top to add into the left side.
7. Repeat until the braid reaches the back pony.
8. Secure with an elastic and then pancake.

Since chopping off my hair, I have been playing with shorter hairstyles. These are 5 of my go to super quick and simple styles!

Style 1

1. I have previously dried and curled my hair, a tutorial for that will be coming soon.
2. I start by adding some dry shampoo (linked below)
3. Let it sit for about 30 seconds then gently shake your hair through your fingers to loosen it up.
4. Part off a 3 inch section on one side of the part line (the side with less hair)
5. Start twisting the hair towards the back of the head.
6. Gently tug at the hair to give more height at the crown.
7. While holding the twist against the head, secure the twist with a bobby pin placing it parallel to the ground.

1. Style 2

1. Similar to style one but take a 1-2 inch section of hair instead.
2. Start twisting the hair towards the back of the head.
3. While holding the twist against the head, secure the twist with a bobby pin placing it parallel to the ground.
4. Take another 1-2 inch section just below the first and repeat by twisting and securing with a bobby pin.

Style 3

1. Take a one inch section next to the part line on the side with more hair
2. Split the hair into two.
3. Cross the front piece over top of the back piece.
4. Add a one inch section to the front piece.
5. Cross over top of the back piece.
6. Continue adding hair to the front piece and crossing over top of the back piece until you have reached the side of the head leaving about 1 inch of hair covering the ear.
7. Now simply twist both strands towards the front and cross over top of each other towards the back.
8. Keep twisting and crossing without adding hair until you have reached the end of the strands.
9. Secure with an elastic.
10. Gently tug at each stitch moving down the rope braid until you have the desired look.

Style 4

1. This style is a continuation of the previous rope braid.
2. Take the rope braid and pull it towards the back.
3. Secure with two bobby pins in an 'x' shape.
4. On the opposite side of the head, take a 2-3 inch section of hair.
5. Twist the hair towards the back. 
6. Keep twisting until the strand is twisted to the end.
7. Put the twist across the top and through the rope braid that is secured.
8. Secure the twist with two bobby pins as well.
9. Gently tug at the twist to loosen it up a bit for the desired look.

Style 5

1. Take the crown section and tease the hair (brush is linked below)
2. Then gently smooth out the top without brushing out all of the volume.
3. Secure the crown section with an elastic at the back of the section.
4. Take another elastic and add our signature messy bun (tutorial linked below)
5. Wrap the elastic around a few times, then while keeping it on your fingers,
6. Split the pony into two.
7. Fold the top piece up and hold with your finger.
8. Curl the bottom piece down and hold with your thumb.
9. Take the elastic and pull it over top of the hair forming two buns.
10. Now take the long pieces and curl them in towards the buns and tuck them into the elastic.

Three 5 Minute Toddler Rope Braid Hairstyles | Q's Hairdos | Lu's Hairdos

These three styles are perfect for short hair. I did one on Quincy's longer hair, but it works just as well on those shorter baby hairs. I love rope braids because they are quick and more simple than braiding with three strands. I hope that you enjoy our tutorial! Let me know below if you have any questions!

Rope Braid Half Up Pigtails

1. Start with a part line one inch off of center. 
2. Damp hair sprayed with spray gel (linked below)
3. Part off the crown section and clip the other hair out of the way.
4. Take a one inch diagonal section from the part line to the forehead.
5. Split into two.
6. Cross the front piece over top of the back piece.
7. Add a one inch section to the front piece, smooth it out, then cross over top of the back.
8. Repeat and continue moving towards the back of the section diagonally, until you have added in all of the crown section.
9. Secure with an elastic at the back corner of the section.
10. Part off a 2 inch section on the opposite side and secure with an elastic at the back corner of the section as well.

Crossed Rope Twists into Half Up Pigtails

1. Start with a center part and damp hair sprayed with spray gel.
2. Section off the hair in the crown section a few inches above the ear.
3. Split this section in half width ways.
4. Secure the back section with an elastic at the back corner.
5. Secure the front section in the center of that section.
6. Repeat on the opposite side.
7. Once you have four ponies secured.
8. Take one of the front ones and split into two.
9. Twist each section to the right and cross to the left, twist to the right cross to the left.
10. Continue until this rope twist reaches the opposite back ponytail. Secure to it with an elastic.
11. Repeat on the opposite side.

Double Curved Rope Braids

1. Start with damp hair in the crown section sprayed with spray gel.
2. Part off the crown section.
3. At the part line, take the comb in a curved line along the part line towards the back of the crown section on the opposite side.
4. Secure that hair with a clip.
5. At the front of the part line again, take the comb in a curved line along the hair line towards the back where the first section ended. (repeat as I did here until you have it the size and shape that you desire.
6. Take the middle oval section and clip that out of the way.
7. In the front section we will take a one inch piece and split into two.
8. Cross the front piece over the back then add to the front piece.
9. Cross over top of the back piece add to the front piece.
10. Continue until the rope braid reaches the back corner where all sections meet.
11. I like to then twist both sections to the right and cross to the left a few times then clip out of the way.
12. For the back curved section, we will take a one inch section. 
13. Split into two.
14. Cross the back piece over top of the front piece.
15. Add a one inch section to the back piece and cross over top of the front.
16. Continue until all of the hair is incoorporated from this section.
17. Secure both rope braids and the oval section of hair in an elastic where they all meet.

Clover Shamrock Saint Patrick's Day Hairstyle | Lu's Hairdos

A fun style for Saint Patrick's Day. Or just if you are feeling like you need a little luck :) This style takes a bit longer. It took me about 13 minutes, so be sure to plan accordingly. It is definitely an intermediate style, so don't feel bummed if you can't get it on the first try. I honestly could use some practice myself! This is not a style I do often, but it is fun to know!

1. Start with a side part and damp hair in the crown section.
2. Take a diagonal 2 inch section from forehead to part line
3. Secure with an elastic at the center back of the section.
4. Take another diagonal 2 inch section from temple to part line.
5. Split in half lengthwise.
6. Secure the right section with an elastic close to the center line.
7. Secure the left section close to the center line as well.
8. Take the Topsy Tail tool (linked below)
9. Put the pointed end underneath the front ponytail.
10. Poke it through and then pull the ponytail through the loop.
11. Pull the pointed end until the loop comes through the other side.
12. With the next ponies we will repeat, but watch carefully which direction I put the pointed end.
13. Put it underneath the ponytail closest to the center line.
14. Comb through the ponytails and add water and spray gel (linked below)
15. Take the first pony and split into two.
16. Twist both pieces away from each other. Keep twisting until the hair starts to curl on itself.
17. Form a heart to the size you desire. Hold the hair at the point of the heart
18. Pull the pieces straight upwards and then add an elastic at that point.
19. Repeat with the other two ponies.
20. Now carefully add an elastic to secure all three hearts together at the same point of where the other elastics are.
21. Adjust the three hearts until they sit where they need to form the shamrock.
22. If desired, cut the three previous elastics off (do not pull them, use small scissors or a seam ripper like in the tutorial linked below)
23. Take the hair about 2 inches above the ear and secure in an elastic behind the shamrock.
24. Gently secure the shamrock to the ponytail behind it.

Toddler Hairstyle Bubble Braid Pigtails | Lu's Hairdos | Q's Hairdos

If you have trouble braiding those fine toddler hairs this style is perfect for you! Bubble braids are a simple way to pull the hair back and keep it in place all day long. This style was so cute on Lucy and lasted all day!

1. Start with a center part all the way down the back.
2. Clip the left side out of the way.
3. Spray with water and spray gel as needed.
4. Take a diagonal one inch section of hair from the part line to the right side.
5. Secure in an elastic.
6. Take another diagonal one inch section just behind the first.
7. Secure it in an elastic including the first ponytail.
8. Now gently tug at the pony between the two elastics to form the bubble.
9. Continue sectioning off the hair into one inch sections and securing with the previous pony.
10. Form the bubbles as you go.
11. Place the last elastic fairly close to the second to last one.
12. Repeat on the opposite side.
13. Be sure to make the sections the same size.
14. Start each section in the same spot as the parallel one on the right side.
15. Form the bubbles as you go.
16. Add bows!

Dutch Braid and Bubble Pigtails | Q's Hairdos

A lot of requests for a tutorial for this hairstyle. It's simple, but I think I'm realizing that simple is what you all like. Comment below and let me know if that's true! If you need more help with a Dutch braid watch this tutorial: https://youtu.be/euD7oxw_gQA

1. Start with a side part and slightly damp in the crown section.
2. Spray with water and spray gel.
3. Part off the crown section and clip out of the way.
4. Part down the center back.
5. Place your finger at the bottom of the nape and take the comb from the top down to your finger.
6. Secure the pigtails with an elastic.
7. Use more water and spray gel if needed.
8. Take the crown section out of the clip.
9. Part off a one inch diagonal section close to the part line.
10. Split into three.
11. Start a dutch braid by crossing the out side pieces underneath the middle section.
12. Now add a section to the left piece and cross under the middle.
13. Add a section to the right piece and cross under the middle.
14. Use a smoothing brush if needed.
15. Continue adding hair to each side and crossing under the middle until you have added in all of the hair from the crown section.
16. Now simply three strand braid until the braid reaches the right side pigtail.
17. Secure with an elastic.
18. Smooth the pigtail.
19. Add an elastic about 2-3 inches down the pigtail.
20. Now gently pull at either side of the bubble (between the two elastics)
21. Use a comb to smooth it if needed.
22. Repeat a few inches down.
23. Add another elastic and then gently pull to form the bubble.
24. Repeat until you reach the end of the hair.
25. Then repeat on the other pigtail.

3 Hearts Toddler Valentine's Style | Q's Hairdos | Lu's Hairdos

A perfect Valentine's hairstyle for short toddler hair! This style looks complicated, but it's really not. You just need one tool that will make it easier. The Topsy Tail Tool.

This style took me about 7 minutes with a wiggly toddler ;)

1. Begin with a deep side part and damp hair in the crown sprayed with spray gel.
2. Split the crown section into three equal parts.
3. Secure each section with an elastic on one side of the head opposite of the part line.
4. Take the Topsy Tail tool and put the pointed end under the elastic.
5. Pull the ponytail through the loop and pull the pointed end up through the hair until the ponytail comes through.
6. Repeat to the other two ponies.
7. Spray the ponies with more water and spray gel to keep fly aways at bay.
8. Split the ponytail in half.
9. Twist each section of the ponytail towards the outside.
10. So twist the right piece to the right and the left piece to the left.
11. Keep twisting until the hair starts to curl up.
12. Decide how big you want the heart to be.
13. Then pull the hair straight and add an elastic in that spot.
14. Re form the heart.
15. Repeat with the other two ponies.
16. You can leave the hairstyle as is, or take about an inch and a half section of hair above the ear and add an elastic.
17. Secure each of the hearts to that pony with an elastic as well.
18. Gently tug at the heart if it needs to be loosened a bit to form the heart again.
19. Add a bow!

French and Dutch Lace Braid | Q's Hairdos

I had a ton of requests for a tutorial on this hairstyle, and I can see why! It's super cute. I love that it's a twist on classic but still simple and beautiful! These two braids can be easy with practice. If you need more help follow these tutorials first:

This style took me about 10 minutes. With practice, you can do it too :)

1. Begin with the crown section parted off and the rest of the hair pulled back into a clip.
2. Start a french braid by taking a one inch diagonal section.
3. Split into three.
4. The side strands will cross OVER top of the middle strand.
5. Now add to each side by grabbing a one inch section and cross OVER top of the middle.
6. Continue by adding to each side and crossing over the middle. 
7. When you have finished adding in all of the top crown section, simply three strand braid a few stitches and then loosely secure the hair in a soft hair tie.
8. Now we will part off the lace braid section.
9. Start on the opposite side about 2 inches from the part line. 
10. Part off the hair parallel to the floor all the way around to meet where we ended the french braid.
11. Leave about 3 inches of hair covering the ears on either side.
12. It's easiest to start this braid with Quincy's head tilted slightly, or you could have her lay down on your lap on the side if that's easier.
13. Start the lace braid by taking a one inch section of hair and split into three.
14. For a Dutch braid we will cross the side strands UNDER the middle strand.
15. Now we will only be adding hair into the top strand.
16. So cross the bottom strand under and then add into the top and cross under.
17. Cross the bottom under then add to the top.
18. Repeat this all the way around. Try to keep your hands at the base of the part line so that the braid will sit at the bottom of that part line when you finish.
19. Smooth each section as you go before adding it in.
20. When you have reached the french braid, take out the loose hair tie and secure both braids together with an elastic.
21. Let the rest of the hair out and curl if desired and add a bow!

5 Minute Toddler Style Three Flips | Q's Hairdos | Lu's Hairdos

A simple and quick toddler hairstyle that keeps the hair in place. You will need a Topsy Tail tool which I will link below!

1. Start with a deep side part and the hair slightly damp in the crown sprayed with spray gel.
2. Split the crown section into two from the part line towards the opposite ear.
3. Secure the back half of the top crown section with an elastic on the opposite side of the part line.
4. Split the front half of the crown section into three equal parts.
5. Secure each with an elastic at the back.
6. Taking the Topsy Tail tool, put the pointed end through the first front ponytail underneath the elastic and put the ponytail through the loop then pull down.
7. Repeat with the other two front ponies.
8. Add the three ponies into the back section and secure with an elastic.

Criss Crossed Ponies into Pigtails | Q's Hairdos

Love this pigtail style that looks a little more complicated but it's really not. Follow along as we show you how to do each step! I will link all of the products that we use below!

1. Begin with the hair brushed back and spray with water and spray gel.
2. Part the center section about 3-4 inches wide and 4-5 inches back.
3. Secure with an elastic at the back center of the section.
4. Part off the side section leaving about 2 inches of hair above the ear out of this section.
5. Secure with an elastic and repeat on the opposite side.
6. Part the hair down the center back and secure the pigtails leaving out the previous pony tails.
7. Add water and spray gel to each of the three top ponies.
8. Split the middle one in half.
9. Take the top left pony and clip it to the right side pigtail.
10. Take the top right pony and clip it to the left side pigtail.
11. Take the right side of the middle pony and secure it with the other hair to the right pigtail.
12. Take the left side of the middle pony and secure it with the other hair to the left pigtail.

Mini Pull Through Braid Pony Tail | Q's Hairdos

I love this accent to a ponytail. A pull through braid looks fancy, but it really isn't too difficult when you understand the rhythm. A perfect style for to dress up for holiday parties or more casual for school!

1. I start this style with the ponytail already in place.
2. Part off the front section about 2-3 inches back and about 2-3 inches above the ear.
3. Spray with water and spray gel (linked below.)
4. Part off a one inch section parallel to the part line. 
5. Secure with an elastic at the back of the section.
6. Continue adding an elastic at the back of each one inch section.
7. I have parted off 6 sections.
8. Now we will start the pull through braid.
9. Split the first pony in half.
10. Move the second pony up and through the first pony. 
11. Secure the first pony (both strands) to the third pony.
12. Move the second pony back down and pancake the hair that was just secured.
13. Repeat using the second pony as the first pony.
14. Once there are no more ponies to secure the hair to, you will just secure each first pony to itself underneath the second pony.
15. Continue to pancake and add more elastics until the braid reaches the ponytail.
16. Secure the braid to the ponytail with an elastic.

Looped Dutch Braids | Q's Hairdos

Quincy asked for her hair to be done like this last week and it turned out so cute! I had a bunch of requests for a tutorial so I thought I would show you before all of the holiday parties. I think it would be a perfect holiday hairstyle!

1. Start with a deep side part and slightly damp hair.
2. Part down the middle back.
3. Take a one inch diagonal section parallel to the part line.
4. Split the section into three.
5. Start a dutch braid by crossing the side section underneath the middle section.
6. Now add hair to each side and cross under the middle.
7. Continue adding hair to each stitch and crossing under the middle each time.
8. Once the braid has reached the nape of the neck add an elastic a few inches up to form a ponytail.
9. Now three strand braid the hair to the end. Leaving about 3-4 inches of hair at the end un-braided.
10. Secure with an elastic.
11. Flip the braid up so the elastic meets where the ponytail began.
12. Take another elastic and wrap it around the braid twice.
13. Keeping it on your fingers, wrap the ends of the hair towards the front and around once or twice.
14. Now grab the ends with your fingers that have the elastic on them and pull the elastic around the braid and those ends one more time.
15. Repeat on the opposite side.
16. Begin a dutch braid by splitting into three.
17. Remember to cross the sides underneath the middle.
18. Secure the braid with an elastic a few inches above the nape.
19. Three strand braid.
20. Wrap an elastic around a few times and then wrap the ends around towards the front.
21. Secure it with the elastic and you're done!

3 Strand Pull Through Braid Headband | Q's Hairdos

I love this style! It's a little more time consuming with all of the elastics needed. But, it's worth it in the end. It is also super cute added into a messy bun or ponytail.

Start with damp hair and a deep side part. We will be using water and spray gel which I will link below.
Part off a 1 inch section parallel to the part line. Secure with an elastic. Repeat 6 more times to have a total of 7 ponytails down the crown section towards the ear. Now we will start the braid.

1. Split 1st pony into three
2. Split 2nd pony into two
3. Take the center section of the 1st pony and put through middle of 2nd pony
4. Move 2nd pony strands up
5. Pull outside sections of 1st ponies around 2nd pony to meet with the center section of 1st pony
6. Secure 1st pony to 3rd pony

This may seem really confusing at first. But once you get the rhythm down it will go quickly.

I would recommend pancaking each section as you go rather than all at the end as I show in the tutorial. The end result will be much more evenly pancaked.

When you reach the end pony. Split them one more time and secure the first pony to itself underneath the second pony.

Connected Twists into a Top Knot | Q's Hairdos

It’s been a little while! We took a break while I recovered from having the baby. We probably aren’t back full time, but we have a few tutorials coming! Hope you enjoy them! A fun way to spice up that top knot. This top knot is extra cute on the side. If you aren't familiar with our signature messy bun/top knot, you can find a helpful tutorial below! We filmed this tutorial before baby brother was born (as you will notice my large bump :D)

1. Start with damp hair in the crown section sprayed with spray gel (linked below) and a deep side part.
2. Take a one and a half inch section parallel to the part line all the way back in the crown.
3. Split this section into two and secure each with an elastic.
4. Take the remaining hair in the crown section, a few inches above the ear and secure with an elastic.
5. Take the first two pony tails and add rope twists by splitting the ponytail in half.
6. Then twist each section of the ponytail to the right and cross to the left, continue twisting to the right and crossing to the left until it reaches the larger ponytail.
7. Clip to the ponytail.
8. Repeat with the other small pony.
9. Secure each rope twist to the larger pony. 
10. Move the pony out of the way and secure the remaining hair into a high side ponytail.
11. Split the front pony into two and add a rope twist.
12. Secure the rope twist to the main high ponytail with an elastic.
13. Add spray gel as needed to tame the fly aways.
14. Now we will add our signature messy bun.
15. Take two elastics and wrap them around one or two times and keep it on your fingers.
16. Split the ponytail into two.
17. Curl the top section up and hold with your finger.
18. Curl the bottom section down and hold with your thumb.
19. Pull the remaining elastic over top of the buns.
20. Let go of the elastic.
21. Now adjust the buns to the size you want by tugging at the ends.
22. Curl the ends back into the elastic. (You may need to curl them back through a few times for each section depending on how long the hair is.)

How to Dutch Braid Short Toddler Hair | Q's Hairdos | Lu's Hairdos

Braiding tiny baby hairs on a toddler can be quite tricky. I have a few tips that can help to get those little hairs to stay in place! Follow this tutorial and I will show you how! As always, all of the products we use can be found in the description below!

1. Start with a deep side part and damp hair.
2. We will be using this brush during most of this style.
3. Also spray with spray gel to keep those baby hairs in place.
4. Take a one inch diagonal section at the part line.
5. Split into three.
6. Cross the side piece underneath the middle piece.
7. Again cross the other side piece underneath the middle piece.
8. Now we will add a one inch section of hair to the side piece.
9. Cross underneath the middle.
10. Add hair to the other side and cross underneath the middle.
11. Keep your hands right on top of the head to keep the braid tight.
12. Take this brush which I will link below and gently brush up a section of hair to add into the side piece.
13. If you brushed too much just take out some of the hair before adding it into the braid.
14. Continue adding hair from each side and crossing underneath the middle.
15. I mostly only use this brush on the hairline, to get those baby hairs up into the braid. Add more spray gel if needed.
16. Once you have braided the crown section, secure the braid with an elastic close to the head.
17. Take another elastic and wrap it around a few times.
18. Add our signature messy bun by keeping the elastic on your fingers.
19. Split the ponytail into two.
20. Curl the top half up and hold with your finger.
21. Curl the bottom half down and hold with your thumb.
22. Take the remaining elastic over top of the buns and let go.
23. Now curl the ends back into the elastic.

Quick Elastic Style: Short Hair vs Long Hair | Q's Hairdos

This is another style that is great for short or long hair. Long hair can then be pulled into a pony or messy bun, or simply left down as we do here. Also a great back to school style as it is quick and will stay looking nice all day! Follow along and we will show you how to do it.


Short Hair

1. Start in the crown section with a deep side part.
2. With slightly damp hair and spray gel to tame fly aways. (I will link the products we use in the description.)
3. We will be splitting the hair into 5 even sections parallel to the part line.
4. Start with a section 1 inch wide by 4 inches in length.
5. Secure with an elastic.
6. The next section starts the same size as the first but we split it into two.
7. Secure each section with an elastic.
8. Now take the first pony and split it into two.
9. Add one section into the left pony and one into the right.
10. Part off a new section the same size as the first.
11. You can either secure it with an elastic by itself and then add in the two previous ponies, or add the hair all in together and secure it with an elastic.
12. Repeat again by splitting the next section into two.
13. Split the pony in half and secure one side to the right section and one to the left.
14. Part off the last section and secure the ponytails into it securing with an elastic in the middle of the section.

Long Hair

1. We basically do it the exact same. Start with a deep side part and damp hair sprayed with spray gel.
2. We will split the hair into 5 equal sections again parallel to the part line.
3. For Quincy's hair I do like to secure the section first with an elastic, before adding in the previous ponytail. This helps define the lines a little bit better in the design.
4. Continue with the 1-2 pattern until you have all 5 sections secured.
5. Add a bow!
