Review for Rodan & Fields | Tessi's Beauty Tips

A few months back a friend asked if I would like to try some samples of Rodan & Fields, so I said sure why not! Of course then we moved and chaos hit, so it took me a while to get this review done. But I wanted to let you know how I liked the products that I tried. The products she sent were sample size, so a few of them I was only able to use a couple of times. It was a 3 step process using:

Redefine: Daily Cleansing Mask
Redefine: Night Renewing Serum
Redefine: Lip Renewing Serum
Redefine: Multi Function Eye Cream

The Daily Cleansing Mask is a clay based mask that gently exfoliates. You leave it on for a few minutes to dry and then rinse it off. My skin did feel extra smooth after using it because of the exfoliation beads that are in it. I didn't love that you had to wait a few minutes for it to dry, maybe because I'm always in a rush to get ready for bed? ;)

The Night Renewing Serum is supposed to help tighten and reduce wrinkles. I'm sure it would do that if you were to use it for an extended period of time. It felt nice when going on though!

I loved the Lip Renewing Serum. It was super smooth and felt so nice on my lips! I did feel that my lips were renewed in the morning!

When I started using these products I was dealing with a breakout of eczema under my eye. The Multi Function Eye Cream helped it clear right up and I was so happy because the product I usually use hadn't been helping. The sample of the eye cream was a great size and actually lasted a few months! I enjoyed using it for more of an extended period!

Eyebrow Tips | Tessi's Beauty Tips

Brow shape? 1. If you were to draw a line perpendicular and up from the side of your nose your eyebrow should start there. 2. From the side of your nose through your iris is where your brow should arch. 3. Lastly, from your nose to the side of your eye and up is where your brow should end.

I have loved using the Anastasia Brow Pencil in Soft Brown the tip is narrow which makes it easy to get more natural looking strokes. For a more budget friendly eyebrow pencil I would suggest the L’Oréal Eyebrow Stylist Definer Pencil. The color I have used is Brunette.

Dry Shampoo and Dry Conditioner!

amika Dry Shampoo is a favorite by many, I love it because it has a great feel to it, not too heavy and not gritty either. I don't feel like I need a ton of it and it doesn't dry out my hair like others have. It's best to apply at night and then have fresher hair in the morning!

amika recently came out with a Dry Conditioner as well that is perfect if you have dry hair or scalp like me! It revives and refreshes your hair and scalp. They also claim that it helps detangle, soften, and adds shine, though I haven't used it as a detangler yet :)

Dry Shampoo | Beauty Tips

My favorite dry shampoo with more natural ingredients is Amika. This one is a great option if you tend to have a dry scalp as well, since it doesn't contain ingredients that may dry out your skin.

For a more budget friendly option I recommend Batiste. It smells great but not like an air freshener (you know what I'm talking about??) They also have a brunette option so you don't have to worry about it spraying white.

I would love to smell the Tropical scented one and I included a few travel sized options as well!

Essie Gel Couture Review | Tessi's Beauty Tips

I have been wanting to try out Essie Gel Couture for quite a while. Always walking past it at the beauty supply... then a few weeks ago my nail UV lamp broke... more like exploded with sparks and smoke 😨 It was scary... not going to lie! So I decided this was the perfect time to try out something new. As a licensed Nail Tech for 8 years now, I have tried many different kinds of polish, and used to polish my nails 1-2 times a week. These opinions are solely my own and this post is not endorsed. I hope you find it helpful! I also have a locals only deal at the bottom of this post! Message me if you are interested!

This color is called Essie Gel Couture Looks to Thrill and you must also purchase the Essie Gel Couture Top Coat

The steps are easy for application:

1. Clean nails (I used OPI Bond Aid)
2. Apply 1st coat of color and dry for 60 seconds
3. Apply 2nd coat of color and dry for 60 seconds
4. Apply Essie Gel Couture Top Coat and allow to dry completely.

The drying time is essential. I did not let it dry for 60 seconds between layers and it was very streaky (as you will see in the pictures.) The application method was not on the bottle, so learn from my rookie mistakes! I also believe that letting it dry for the complete time helps the polish to stay on better. I learned this after my second trial in a different color. It is currently day 4 (of my second trial) and there are zero large chips, only one small one on my thumb. Let me know if you want an update on the second trial!

Regular Nail Polish Comparison: I will say that you need to compare it to how long YOUR nail polish typically lasts. For me, regular nail polish starts chipping on day 2 and I can't handle it any longer after day 4. I'm not one who can wear my polish until it has completely chipped off 😆

Gel Polish Comparison: For me, gel usually lasts about a week to a week and a half. It usually has a few large chips by this time, depending on the color. Essie Gel Couture does not require a UV lamp, which is great for those who do not have one (or if yours blew up like mine 😄)

Day 2: Small chip on thumb and coming

off the tip of pointer finger (left hand only)

Day 3: A tiny bit more chipping on thumb and more

off of pointer, slight chipping on pinky of left hand.

 Right hand is still perfect.

Day 4: Today I washed my hair. Chipping is more noticable

on pointer and thumb, small chip on ring and middle fingers

 of left hand. Right hand has a bit of wear.

Day 5: Chipping is becoming much more apparent

on left hand. Right hand chipping is looking like day 3 of left hand.

Conclusion: I do feel that Essie Gel Couture is worth the cost in my opinion! It lasts about 5-7 days before I can't handle the chipping anymore. Which is better than 3-4 days with regular polish, and is not as expensive or timely in application as gel polish. I love that you do not need a UV lamp to dry it and that it stays shiny. I also love that it only requires two products. Color and top coat.

How to Apply LipSense | Tessi's Beauty Tips

LipSense is a smudge proof and kiss proof lip color that lasts up to 18 hours! To ensure the longevity of the color, it must be applied in these simple steps:

1. Clean and dry lips (use a soft cloth and witch's hazel if desired).
2. Softly shake the tube of LipSense in the color of your choice. Wipe off the excess.
3. Apply first layer of color in one sweep, without lifting or patting the applicator. (On my top lip, I split it down the middle to do one sweep on either side.)
4. Do not press lips together, wait 5-10 seconds for the layer to dry before applying the second and third layers in the same way. (The reason I said not to press your lips together is because they will stick!)
5. Finally apply gloss! Apply more gloss throughout the day as needed.
6. Use the Ooop's Remover to clean up any mistakes (which I make every day!) and to remove the product when desired!

Help My Hair Grow!

What if my hair won't grow? As a cosmetologist, this is a question I get asked often from clients. These are the typical follow up questions I then ask:

• Do you use heat protectant and oils? You need to! These are the ones I like:

Redken Satinwear 02 (this is the old packaging, but it's cheaper because of it!)

• How often do you wash your hair? It could be drying your hair out if it's more than twice a week, especially if you live in a dry climate. This will also keep you from using heat tools too often on your hair. To help with those days in between I recommend a dry shampoo such as:

• Do you use a deep conditioner or a mask? This will help with dryness and damage. I use this one once a week:

• How often do you trim your hair? This will help with breakage and split ends which helps the hair to grow long and healthy. Schedule a regular trim every 6 weeks with me! Or do it yourself as in this tutorial: (go to the link and search "trim split ends")

**If you are having trouble with the thickness of your hair, you may want to consider a specialized hair care routine.

Favorite Nail Polish

Those of you who don't know... I am a licensed Nail Technician and worked full time in the salon for 3 years until I went back to do hair as well! During that time I polished literally thousands of nails, so you could say I have a trick or two.

My favorite polishes are OPI and Essie. Today I'm featuring my favorite Essie spring colors: Topless & Barefoot and Stones 'N Roses.

To prep the nail I always use OPI BondAid. This is a pH balancing agent, which basically just gets rid of the oils on your nails and helps the polish stick better. (the bottle will last you a long time!)

It's important to use a basecoat on your nails. Basecoat acts as a sticky layer to help the polish stay on better. It also protects your nails from yellowing (especially with darker nail polish colors.) I really like the Seche Vite brand called Seche Clear. (on sale right now!!)

My all time favorite topcoat is also by Seche Vite. (Also on sale right now!!) It's quick drying and keeps the shine for a long time!
